“Make our library your legacy”

Thank you for your interest in the Meredith Library Fund and the library renovation and expansion project. Our mission is to obtain tax-deductible donations and grants to provide a philanthropic opportunity to help equip, renovate, and expand the Meredith Public Library and reduce taxpayers’ cost for the project. To that end, we have set a goal of raising $1,125,000. The campaign launched 2/1/19, and we have over $1,050,000 in donations..

The Meredith Public Library is a beloved cornerstone of our community, with 75% of residents registered as active patrons. From its central location at 91 Main Street, the library provides materials, services, and programs to meet the personal, educational, and informational needs of residents and visitors of all ages. The library building was constructed in 1900, and although there was an addition in 1988, several engineering, architectural, and safety studies have shown that a larger, modern structure is needed to serve community needs more safely and effectively.

In 2017, voters approved the purchase of an abutting property to provide much needed municipal parking for downtown and library visitors.

The $400K warrant article for the design phase was resoundingly passed at March 2019 town meeting. Upon completion of the detailed plans, a bond issue for the construction and renovation phase will be requested in a warrant article at a town meeting, likely in March 2020. If the warrant article is approved, construction is expected to be completed within a year, with an anticipated completion date in 2021. The project cost will include funding for an owner’s project manager to oversee the construction, protecting the taxpayers’ investment. Funds raised by the Meredith Library Fund will go toward reducing the overall cost of the project to the taxpayers.
